Engl Flag2Why English?

  • English is the first language for most people in the United States of America, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, and the Commonwealth Caribbean (approximately 375 million people).
  • It is used extensively as a second language and as an official language throughout the world and in many international organizations. English is the dominant language in communications, science, business, entertainment, radio, tourism and diplomacy.
  • It is, by international treaty, the official language for aerial and maritime communications, as well as one of the official languages of the European Union, the United Nations, and most international athletic organizations, including the International Olympic Committee.
  • When combining native and non-native speakers it is probably the most commonly spoken language in the world since it is currently the language most often taught as a second language around the world.
